Super Lemon Haze

Updated: Sep 5, 2019

Super Lemon Haze was created by Arjan at Green House Seed Co using Super Silver Haze (Skunk #1 x Northern Lights x Haze) and Lemon Skunk (two Skunk phenotypes with strong citrus traits).

"The Super Lemon Haze that we will be discussing today comes from Extractioneering in the form of a full spectrum extract. Their method of processing will allow us to taste and feel the best parts of the dried cannabis flower. Extractioneering defines a full spectrum extract as containing the full range of potentially therapeutic biomolecules from the cannabis trichome without the non-therapeutic molecules (waxes, lipids and fats)."

It is one of only two strains to win back-to-back Amsterdam High times Cannabis Cups (2008 & 2009). The only other strain to do this was Super Silver Haze (1998 &1999), a parent of Super Lemon Haze.

I met Arjan on a trip to Amsterdam in 2002 at the Green House Coffee Shop. At that time, his Super Silver Haze bubble hash was one of our favorite products going around Amsterdam. At the end of our trip, we had about 20 grams of hash remaining (a third of which was the Super Silver Haze purchased from Arjan). Not wanting to forgo the Hash, we played “rock, paper, scissors” to see who would be responsible for transporting the Hash back home disguised within a shampoo bottle. Luckily, I did not get stuck with that responsibility.

Hazes in general seem to be either revered or hated amongst people within the cannabis industry, but the flavors produced when extracting various Haze cuts should not be overlooked. It is generally accepted that the roots of Haze originates near Santa Cruz, California from the Haze Brothers of Corralitos.

They grew cannabis sativa seeds from Columbia, Mexico, Thailand and South India. They then cross-bred various phenotypes with the traits and characteristics they were looking for such as flavor, aroma and height. Haze was instantly considered for a connoisseur’s stash-in the 1970’s an ounce of Haze sold for ~$200 (equivalent to over $1,000 today). By 1984 Haze genetics gained worldwide recognition when Sam the Skunkman moved to Holland with seeds from the Haze Brothers Genetics to be introduced into the commercial cannabis seed business.

Visually, the sugar is bright yellow with small crystals clumping together. The HTFSE is low-viscosity, but not water-thin. The color has a slightly orange tint when compared to the bright yellow of the sugar (HCFSE). The aroma is not similar to a freshly squeezed lemon but closer to a floral lemon, lemon rind and sweet lemon candy. The taste is of lemon, lavender, lemon rind, hint of citrus-pine (Lemon Pledge®) with a sweet fuel finish. Just like the smell, the palate is not of fresh lemons or lemonade, but more of a floral-sweet lemon. Many describe Super Lemon Haze as having a “soaring” effect. It is most definitely an energetic high; not to be taken before planning an afternoon nap. I prefer to dab this extract on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee or late in the afternoon to catch my second wind.

Green House Seed Company produces some of my favorite haze cuts on the planet. Arjan, the self named “King of Cannabis”, may not be loved by everyone, but he has an eye for Pheno Hunting- that much is certain.

Keep smoking that LOUD and dabbing that FIRE!
